SUSTAINABILITY AT MARITIME MOBILITY: COMPARING OPEN DATA ECOSYSTEMS AND COLLABORATIVE MARITIME PLATFORMS

ABSTRACT

Maritime transport is a critical component of global supply chains and sustainable mobility systems. Ports, as interfaces between maritime and land transport, influence urban congestion, emissions, and environmental performance. Open Data Platforms (ODP) and Open Data and Collaborative Platforms (ODCP) can support transparency, data-driven decision-making, and coordination among port and urban stakeholders. This study examines the role of ODP and ODCP in the maritime port sector and their contribution to sustainability and sustainable urban mobility. A multi-stage methodology combines bibliometric analysis with an empirical assessment of platforms associated with the world’s Top 50 Container Ports. The analysis considers publication trends, sustainability dimensions, platform functions, and levels of development. The findings indicate that research in this field remains recent, fragmented, and only partially focused on sustainability. Existing platforms vary considerably in maturity and scope, prioritizing data provision and environmental monitoring, while collaborative functions and integrated economic, environmental, and social dimensions are less consistently developed. Based on these findings, the study proposes a structured framework for evaluating and designing maritime ODP and ODCP. The study contributes to the literature on port–city integration, sustainable mobility, and data-driven governance, while offering practical guidance for port authorities, policymakers, and platform developers.
